This installment is a little bit of a review, as well as, a continuation to Body Designs 50. I previously “reported” on the calorie content of some popular beers, wine and champagne. Today, I am highlighting the best of those alcoholic beverages (lowest calorie) as well as some of their “mixed” alcoholic relatives.
Even before I became a fitness freak, I never understood the desire for a cold beer in hot weather; but I know that it’s something most people love. So if you are one of those “most people”, remember this:
Guinness: This beer may not be too popular because of how dark and thick it is, but Guinness Draught has only 125 calories per 12 ounces.
Under 100-calories Beer: Michelob Ultra has just 95 calories per bottle, while Miller Lite has just 96 calories per 12-ounce bottle.
Best Choices: Miller Genuine Draft Lite has just 64 calories per bottle and Pabst Extra Light Low Alcohol, if you can find it, has only 67.
If Wine is your thing, remember the darker red wines tend to have a higher calories count because they also have a higher alcohol content. So stick with Merlot, Rose or Rhone at 95 calories per glass (4 ounces). Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Riesling all have just 90 calories per glass. And in case you’re wondering, champagne is just 78 calories.
As far as Hard Liquor goes:
Rum (94-proof): 1 ounce is 115 calories
Brandy (94-proof): 1 ounce is 115 calories
Gin (94-proof): 1 ounce is 115 calories
Scotch Whiskey: 1 ounce is 115 calories
Vodka (94-proof): 1 ounce is 115 calories
Whisky (94-proof): 1 ounce is 115 calories
Tequila: 1 ounce is 115 calories
And what the the lowest calorie Mixed Drinks?
Rum and Diet Coke 115 calories
Gin Rickey 115 calories
Sloe Gin Fizz 120 calories
Tom Collins 120 calories
Fuzzy Navel 120 calories
Martini 127 calories
Manhattan 130 calories
So, the next time you’re sweating by the beach or in the bar, try to keep the calories level low and the fun level high! Believe me, both are possible!!
