You canNOT spot reduce!
Spot reduction is the process in which an individual will specific muscle group in an attempt to reduce the amount of fat in that area. Some of the more popular areas in which people attempt to do this is on the abdominals or hips and buttocks. You will never attain a smaller butt or flatter stomach just by performing exercises for those areas.
Why? Believe it or not, a muscle does not own the fat that surrounds it. Also, resistance training builds muscle which, in turn, burns fat throughout the entire body. So, if you’re looking for a flat stomach and don’t diet or do your cardiovascular exercise correctly, but you do endless amounts of weighted crunches, your stomach muscles will get stronger and bigger, thus pushing the area’s fat out and making you look fatter.
So ladies, if you want to drop inches off your hips and butt, eat right, train with weights and do your cardio. Men, if you want to drop inches around your waist, eat right, train with weights and do your cardio. Interesting…different goals, same solution!
