Merry FITNESS Boys and Girls!
In anticipation of the Big Holiday Weekend, this week’s installment is coming to you a bit early.
Sunday is Christmas Day and since those of you who have kids, or are kids at heart, will be waking up a little earlier than normal for a weekend, why not turn the early part of your morning into a FUNday or a Merry FITNESS?
Now, I know most of you don’t observe this particular holiday, as you’re coming to the end your Hanukkah celebrations, you can still (and should) participate in this “jolly” opportunity; especially if you didn’t follow my healthy recipe ideas from Installment 118. All you need to do is take a little time today and tomorrow and plan ahead.
So here are a few easy ideas for The Morning that will help to keep you from looking like Mr. or Mrs. Claus this time next year.
After a healthy breakfast that includes some carbohydrates (i.e. oatmeal, fruit) and high quality protein (i.e. egg whites, non-fat yogurt or cottage cheese), head down to The Pier and bike, jog or “blade” for an hour or two. I find the beach so calming in the winter mornings; especially if it is nice out.
If you have kids that like to jump rope, or you do so yourself…buy one for each member of the family and, before opening the gifts, have a jump rope contest for 15 minutes. I think this one is the best. It will guarantee that your kids will be knocked out after they tare through all of that wrapping paper. Then you and your spouse can do something naughty or nice without being disturbed.
If you are out-of-town, in the snow…instead of a jump rope contest; how about a snow ball fight or a few trips down the slopes to get your metabolism racing?
Is it raining outside? Last chance people! No excuses!! Why not get everyone in the family to do 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups before breakfast. Yes 100. Not 20! Not 50! 100! Each!!
Try it kids. I promise it will be fun. It will also help release those endorphins I talked about last week. So when you see those annoying extended family members later, you won’t get so aggravated. And if you are still too aggravated to deal with them and grab that extra drink or dessert, you’ll at least have already burned the extra calories you’re about to imbibe!
And what will I be doing on this upcoming glorious Christmas Day? What else? Going to Staples and watch the Lakers kickoff the season against the Bulls. First, however, I’ll be jumping rope for thirty minutes on the roof of The Loft! Followed by a healthy breakfast! How “Suite” it is!! That’s Suite 52 – Thanks again Mike. As always!
Oh, I almost forgot. The title of this edition reflects the fact that my latest and third moniker of the year has been bestowed upon me this past weekend. First I was Uncle Bill. Then I was Relaxing Bill. I am now Godfather Bill; the title was handed to me earlier tonight by Willie Mo’s parents.
