Body Designs 100: Reverse the Curse

Hello Everyone!

We made it! Body Designs is 100 installments-old! Thank you for your support!

So, in honor of this centennial milestone, I would like to discuss ways one can stop, or even reverse the aging process. Now, we all know that one way to stop the process is to not continue it. That’s not what we’re talking about.

What we are talking about is Anti-Aging Supplementation! These include hormones, vitamins and actual anti-aging supplements.

The six hormones necessary for one to feel and look younger are:

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA): which is an adrenal hormone that is the precursor for steroid hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. It actually works to balance many of the effects of cortisol on your body. It helps it cope with stress (as a result of age and disease) and has been shown to improve memory function, boost energy levels, and reduce fat production.

Testosterone, the hormone responsible for sex drive in BOTH men and women plays an important role in maintaining muscle mass and strength and bone density. If one’s levels are low the hormone is often administered to aging men and women as a topical cream, but oral testosterone supplements and injectable forms are also available.

The “female” steroid hormones estrogen and progesterone also play important roles in maintaining bone density and strength, sexual function, mental function and, in women, in countering the effects of the menopause.

Melatonin is a highly potent antioxidant, which is released every night as part of our time-dependent biorhythms to help induce sleep and recuperation from fatigue.

The B Complex Vitamins (Folic Acid, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12) lower the levels of homocystein in the blood. Therefore reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.a stroke (blocked blood vessel in the brain). Aspirin has an immediate and lasting effect on blood platelets, making them less likely to clump together and making blood flow smoothly.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an essential component of healthy mitochondrial function. As we age, our cells break down and regenerate. However, the more we age, the less regeneration takes place. Therefore, for people over 30, supplementing with CoQ10 has been found to effectively enhance the cell regeneration process.
Other supplements like; the amino acid Acetyl-L-Carnitine Arginate, improves brain function; Asprin makes blood platelets less likely to clump together, reducing the chances of a heart attack; Carnosine strengthens the heart and other muscles’ ability to work harder with age; Fish Oil (Omega-3 Fatty Acid) reduces heart and blood vessel disorders; Green Tea Extract and Lipoic Acid help maintain cellular DNA and membrane structural integrity protecting the body from oxidative damage due to free radicals.
Now, I know that was a bit lengthy and a little bit more scientific than normal. Sorry. Do you need to go out and get all of this stuff right away? No! Should you? Probably not. But, what you should do is get an annual physical and make sure you are healthy and feeling great. Because, if you not, than you’re probably not looking great either.
One last thought…if you want to look and feel younger, you can do all of the above (and include exercise and proper nutrition), or you can do what my mom did just last month…get a face lift!
